Choosing the Right Toilet Pan for Your Bathroom

What should you consider when selecting a toilet pan?

The toilet pan is a fundamental fixture in any bathroom, and choosing the right one impacts both your daily comfort and your room’s visual layout. We curate our collection based on material quality, ease of cleaning, and compatibility with modern cistern systems. Whether you are renovating a master suite or fitting out a compact cloakroom, we provide the technical specifications to ensure a perfect installation.

Core Toilet Pan Configurations

Wall-Hung Pans: The ultimate minimalist choice. Mounted to a concealed frame, these pans keep the floor clear, creating a sense of space and making cleaning effortless.
Back-to-Wall Pans: These are designed to sit flush against a wall or furniture unit, hiding the unsightly waste pipework and creating a streamlined, uncluttered look.
Close-Coupled Pans: A traditional favourite where the pan and cistern are connected as a single unit. These are easy to install and work well in both classic and contemporary settings.
High-Level Pans: Perfect for period-style renovations, these feature an elevated cistern connected by a decorative flush pipe, adding a touch of vintage character to your space.

Technical Considerations Before You Buy

Cistern Compatibility: Ensure your chosen pan is compatible with your installation type. Wall-hung and back-to-wall pans require a concealed cistern, while close-coupled pans require a matching cistern unit.
Flush Technology: Look for modern "rimless" designs. These eliminate the traditional rim inside the bowl, making them significantly more hygienic and easier to clean.
Waste Outlet (Spigot): Check your soil pipe location. Pans are available with different outlets (horizontal, vertical, or P-trap/S-trap). Ensure your purchase matches your existing plumbing layout to avoid costly re-routing.
Dimensions & Seat Fitting: Always check the footprint of the pan, especially in small bathrooms. Don't forget that many pans require a specific matching seat (often sold separately) to ensure the correct fit for the hinges and bowl shape.
